Oak Cliff clean up

Jamie and I went for a walk with trash bags today, and picked up debris along the way to the highway. There is a stretch of road that it seems gets no trash maintenance, so we are going to adopt it.

The picture above is before we cleaned there.

Below left is after, and below right is what we collected today.

I'm going to keep taking before and after pictures so we can track our progress.

  1. I've always thought people should carry trash bags when they went walking, ever since I saw John Lesko doing so one early Saturday morning. As I walk through the halls at school and around the library, I pick up trash. I learned that when I put in additional trash cans there was less to pick up. have you noticed that clean cities in the world have many trash cans?

  2. There are a few trash cans around the park across the street from us, and also at a bus stop up the way, so in this case, I think there just must be a lot of debris from the road.

Also, the worst part of the stretch looks like it is privately owned, so it's likely it gets no city maintenance or otherwise.

It's very interesting being somewhat involved in the maintenance. Jamie and I stopped for what we thought was a stalled car, and it turned out it was some leaders of the Friends of Oak Cliff Parks. So, we are going to be doing clean up and gardening this Saturday with that organization.
